SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): WM has announced the opening of a nearly 125,000-square-foot recycling facility in Indianapolis, significantly expanding recycling capacity in the region. The new plant is designed to process up to 200,000 tons of recyclables annually, strengthening critical infrastructure across the state.
The facility incorporates advanced technologies, including optical sorters, glass recovery systems, ballistic separators, and non-wrapping screens, aimed at improving material recovery rates and producing higher-quality recycled feedstock. This is expected to support manufacturers seeking sustainable raw materials.

According to WM, the investment will enhance single-stream recycling capabilities, increase acceptance of hard-to-recycle materials such as film plastics, and improve contamination management. The company also emphasized its focus on community education to promote proper recycling practices.
Frank Fello stated that the facility represents a major step in supporting a circular economy in Central Indiana. Industry stakeholders, including Indiana Manufacturers Association, highlighted the plant’s role in strengthening supply chain resilience and enabling sustainable manufacturing.
The project aligns with WM’s broader plan to invest $1.4 billion in recycling infrastructure across North America by 2027.
