SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): Republic Services, Inc. (NYSE: RSG) has officially opened its upgraded Peabody Recycling Center in Massachusetts, marking a significant investment in advanced recycling infrastructure to support the state’s waste-reduction goals.
The 54,000-square-foot facility features state-of-the-art systems designed to boost efficiency and material recovery. Key upgrades include automated sorting equipment, AI-powered technology for improved accuracy, enhanced safety systems, and expanded processing capacity of 35 to 40 tons per hour. The improvements are expected to deliver cleaner, higher-quality recyclable materials for end markets while reducing landfill dependency.
According to company officials, the upgraded facility reinforces Republic Services’ commitment to sustainability and the greater Boston community by increasing recycling rates and improving operational performance. The integration of machine learning and automation is set to transform how materials are sorted and processed.
Community leaders and local officials attended the opening event, which included guided tours of the facility. Visitors were introduced to advanced technologies such as ballistic sorters, eddy current separators, conveyor systems, and baling units.
Located in Peabody, the recycling center will serve multiple communities across the greater Boston area, strengthening regional recycling capabilities.
