Weld County Secured Funding for Electronics Recycling Events

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): A $100,000 grant from the state's Supplemental Environmental Project (SEP) program has been awarded to Weld County. According to a news release from the Weld County Department of Public Health and Environment (WCDPHE), the funds will enable the County to hold four electronics recycling events over the course of the upcoming two years.

The news release states that the two e-waste recycling events planned for this summer—one in Greeley and the other in Severance—as well as the two extra events planned for 2026 will be entirely funded by the SEP funds. Last Monday, the Board of County Commissioners formally authorized the SEP agreement. The funds are intended to reduce inappropriate electronic trash disposal and give locals easy access to recycling choices.

According to WCDPHE Executive Director Jason Chessher, SEPs are an excellent illustration of transforming a violation into a community asset. Residents now have safe and responsible options to get rid of devices that include lead, mercury, and cadmium, among other hazardous chemicals that could harm the environment or wind up in landfills, thanks to the financing.
