Smaller lithium batteries, such as smoke detector batteries and double-A and triple-A batteries, are currently accepted by the recycling program. It is recommended that residents dispose of these batteries at facilities that are involved. Batteries from these sites will be gathered by the program, which will also make sure they are recycled safely. Later on, the program will begin to accept lithium batteries in power tools, computers, and other electronic equipment.
Case Western Reserve University's Stephanie Corbett emphasized the significance of recycling lithium batteries. First of all, if they aren't recycled, the harmful compounds they contain could harm the environment. They also include important minerals that are costly to mine and difficult to obtain.
The city's public works director, Chris Gordon, encouraged citizens to make the most of the initiative in order to lower the amount of rubbish that ends up in landfills. He also mentioned that the Lakewood Recycling Center was a good place to recycle the used lithium batteries.
