Kent County Opens New Styrofoam Recycling Drop-Off Station

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): The North Kent Recycling and Waste Center in Rockford has opened a new Styrofoam recycling drop-off station, according to Kent County. Residents now have a simple and practical way to get rid of Styrofoam products at the new location. The Foam Recycling Coalition provided a grant to help establish the new recycling site.

The County will be able to divert Styrofoam garbage from the landfill thanks to the drop-off station. A machine at the plant compresses Syrofoam into dense bricks, which are then used to create new goods. In addition to helping to lessen the amount of Syrofoam that ends up in landfills, this will provide locals with easy recycling options.

Before the implementation of this new scheme, homeowners had to make the long trip to Big Rapids in order to get rid of their Styrofoam. Residents will be able to dispose of various materials, including rubbish that is difficult to recycle, at the new facility. Any type of white foam will work with it.

Rough estimates indicate that about 1,000 people come to the center to leave off their belongings. According to Matt McPherson, the marketing and communications manager for the Kent County Department of Public Works, the center now has about 1,600 pounds of condensed foam in total.
