Wallowa County to Open New Landfill

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): A new landfill will be completed in around two weeks, according to Wallowa County Commissioner John Hillock. The landfill will be situated on Enterprise's north side, directly north of the existing Ant Hill Landfill. In order to accommodate solid waste, a new pit is presently being dug.

To date, the County has invested over $80,000 in the new landfill's construction. Scrapers, D6 bulldozers, and D7 bulldozers are among the landfill equipment that accounts for a sizable amount of the overall expenditure. According to Kari Carper, administrative assistant for Wallowa County Public Works, the remaining expenses are for labour and fuel.

It is anticipated that the new landfill will last for a minimum of five years. It should be mentioned that the former hole was filled sooner than expected because of the massive quantities it had to hold during the August 2021 hailstorm in Wallowa.

In related news, the County authorities stated that, after taking into account the initial setup and operation costs, they want to install closed-circuit cameras at a number of locations, including the landfill and the recycling centre on Fish Hatchery Lane. The economic aspect and legal requirements are mentioned as the main issues. By October of this year, a new landfill and recycling budget should be available.
