SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): The U.S Consul General, Will Stevens urged the Nigerian youth to play the leadership role in protecting the environment by extending support to efforts aimed at tackling the challenge of waste management in the country.

The U.S. envoy was speaking at an event that marked the launch of U.S. government-supported “Recycling Waste to Wealth Challenge”- a competition for students in vocational and technical colleges in Ogun State.

Stevens noted that the U.S. currently has over half-a-million Nigerians, who have demonstrated their ability to develop cutting-edge solutions to various problems. Nigerian Americans are the most successful diaspora group in the U.S. in terms of education and income.

Furthermore, the country is home to five out of nine African tech companies that offer state-of-the-art solutions to everyday living challenges. All these five companies are incorporated in the U.S. as well, driving innovations together.

The country should do everything possible to fix the problems such as plastic pollution and food insecurity. The systematic and widespread implementation of effective recycling schemes will not only save the planet but bring employment opportunities to youth in the country.
