Ulster County Launched New Grant Program to Support Zero-Waste Events


SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): Ulster County declared the opening of a new award program to encourage zero-waste activities in the city. The award will pay for cleaning materials, compostable serviceware, compostable bags, zero waste supply bins, and hauling and composting services. It will also provide funding for a coordinator who is specifically focused on zero-waste.

Apart from financial aid, the ‘Green the Scene: We Are Zero-Waste Bound!’ grant recipients will be provided marketing assistance to highlight their sustainability efforts. Additionally, the Ulster County Resource Recovery Agency will provide the event organizers with resources like bags and collection boxes upon request. The program awards will be made on a rolling basis until all funds have been allocated, said Ulster County Executive Jen Metzger.

Supporting trash diversion during fairs and festivals is crucial to maintaining Ulster County's natural beauty and fostering sustainable tourism, said Lisa Berger, director of Ulster County Tourism.

When it comes to zero-waste innovation, Ulster County has led the region. It has made a number of significant actions in recent years to recover valuable resources from the waste stream and divert waste from landfills.
