Syracuse City Approves Recycling Cart Program

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Syracuse City Common Council, in a meeting held yesterday, discussed the upcoming recycling cart program. This is further to implementation of the new trash cart program in May last year, mainly aimed at reducing litter and worker injuries.

According to Amir Gethers, Common Councilor, people are seen putting all the trash together in trash carts, instead of recycling. Also, residents have been unable to use the 96-gallon trash carts to their full capacity. The use of recycling carts along with trash carts will help solve these issues to some extent.

The timeline to commence full use of recycling carts has not been announced yet. The Council is awaiting a response to their grant application. The recycling time frame will be different from the trash cart time frame, which in turn will result in a change in the pick-up day for its residents.

The recycle carts will make use of Syracuse sanitation vehicles supplied through the Department of Public Works (DPW). The residents could leave larger recyclable items outside of the recycling cart. There will be fines for residents who do not comply with guidelines, though the details about the fine are yet to be finalized.
