SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): SWACO is investing in four key initiatives to help Central Ohio residents and families reduce waste, expand recycling access, and prevent food waste. Only 36% of Americans maintain New Year’s resolutions past January, but SWACO aims to make sustainable habits achievable through practical programs focused on food waste, specialized recycling, and data-driven strategies.

The Food Waste Expansion Program recently added a drop-off site in Reynoldsburg, joining more than 35 locations in Franklin County. Residents can drop off food scraps at no cost, with free home bins for the first 100 households. This program supports SWACO’s Save More Than Food Campaign, which seeks to cut food waste by 50% by 2030.
Under the Greenprint Initiative, SWACO awarded nearly $30,000 to the City of Worthington to establish a Recycling Convenience Center accepting hard-to-recycle items like electronics, car batteries, and Styrofoam.
The Cart Grant Program will deliver 8,000+ recycling carts to Groveport and nearby townships, while new capture rate studies analyze recycling success and identify education opportunities.
SWACO’s expanded efforts aim to make recycling, food scrap diversion, and waste reduction more accessible, practical, and impactful across Central Ohio communities.
