SPU Announced Reopening of South Transfer Station

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): According to an announcement by the Seattle Public Utilities (SPU), the South Transfer Station located at 130 S. Kenyon Street will reopen to the public today, Wednesday, September 10, 2025. The facility was closed temporarily on account of certain critical safety upgrades.

Over 35,000 square feet of tipping flooring were replaced as part of the renovations, guaranteeing ongoing safe and effective operations for both patrons and SPU employees.

Residents were thanked by SPU for utilising alternate locations for recycling drop-off and for enduring the inconvenience caused by the temporary closure. According to SPU, consumer cooperation enabled it to carry out planned renovations and lessen traffic congestion.

Customers are asked to sort and secure loads before arriving, check the station's website for the schedule and list of accepted materials, and use the "Where Does It Go?" tool appropriately to obtain all necessary information about facility operations in order to maintain the station's seamless services.

Additionally, it reminded residents that they must take C&D items to approved recycling facilities like DTG Hudson St., MCS Recycling, or DTG Renton. These facilities include asphalt, concrete, bricks, metal, untreated wood, and gypsum waste.
