Somerset County Hosts Free Secure Shred Event May 16

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): Somerset County residents are encouraged to get rid of personal papers at the second Operation Secure Shred of 2006.

The second of this series of free drive-up shredding events is May 16 from 9 a.m. To 1 p.m at the Somerset County Public Works Garage North County Facility in Bridgewater. Event organizers state the event will run regardless of the weather, but may end prior to its scheduled closing if shredding trucks fill up.

There is no pre-registration needed for residents of any of the county's 21 municipalities; however proof of residence is required and includes a driver's license, lease, tax bill or any other governmental or legal document. No business vehicles or business materials will be accepted.

Individuals will be able to dispose of six boxes, bags or containers of papers at this drive-up event. Paper clips and staples can be left attached to documents; however newspaper, junk mail and magazines will not be shredded. Residents will have to unload their own papers and then are asked to take empty containers home. Staff will be available to help when necessary.

Operation Secure Shred events reduce identity theft. Documents that could be shredded at these events include tax forms, bank and financial statements, medical forms and anything with Social Security information.
