SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): Republic Services, Inc. announced plans to scale its electric truck fleet. Consequently, the environmental services major entered into a long-term deal with Oshkosh Corporation. Incidentally, the company operates a vocational fleet comprising of 17,000 trucks.
Republic Services will begin operating two fully integrated electric recycling and waste truck prototypes this fall. Two automated side-load prototypes are expected to hit the road in Phoenix this fall. Additional vehicles will hit locations including Santa Ana and Carlsbad, Calif., and the Portland, Ore., area by 2024.

The chassis and body of the fully integrated electric recycling and waste collection truck are being designed as a single unit. It also features advanced safety features including an enlarged windshield for improved visibility, 360-degree cameras, lane-departure sensors and automated braking.
Jon Vander Ark, president and chief executive officer, Republic Services noted that the commitment to electrification will help to deliver meaningful environmental and economic benefits and advance its decarbonisation efforts. Furthermore, he reiterated the company’s commitment to make additional investments in innovations that will help reduce emissions.
