SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced that Republic Services has agreed to pay a civil penalty of $100,000 in settlement of alleged violations of the California Air Resources Board (CARB) Truck and Bus Regulation. The settlement covers a total of 30 entities.

Jeremy Walters, Manager of External Communications, Republic Services, in a statement, noted that the company is glad to resolve this matter with US EPA Region 9. The company looks forward to provide sustainable solutions to its customers in California and across the country, Walters added.

The Truck and Bus Regulation was first created in 2008, which underwent several revisions over the years. The latest version requires all trucks to have model year 2010 engines or equivalent emissions from their vehicles. It must be noted that Republic Services is transitioning its entire fleet across the U.S. away from diesel.

Martha Guzman, EPA Pacific Southwest Administrator said that the national truck fleets operating within California need to comply with the state rule. By holding companies accountable, the EPA aims to protect the environment and public health from pollution caused by heavy-duty trucks that run on diesel fuel, Guzman added.
