Recycling pick-up issues continue for East End communities

Recycling pickup in the Pittsburgh’s East End neighborhoods continues to be hampered by staffing issues within the Department of Public Works, the city said Wednesday.

The staffing problems “are largely due to COVID-19, with Environmental Services workers being off for pandemic-related reasons,” the city said in a release.

The lapse in service has affected neighborhoods that include East Hills, East Liberty, Lincoln-Lemington-Belmar, Point Breeze, Regent Square, Homewood and Squirrel Hill North.

The city said it has reassigned workers from other division to assist. Today’s routes were serviced, but the city said some materials left out on Monday and Tuesday were not collected.

It is asking those residents to retrieve their recyclables and place them back onto the curb for pickup on the week of Dec. 7.
