Recycle Colorado Awards “Outstanding Outreach” Award to Avon

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): The Town of Avon received “Outstanding Outreach” award from Recycle Colorado. The award is in recognition of the town’s recycling education program.

The town had launched the “Recycle Together” campaign in February this year. The revamped website serves as a hub of recycling information, providing information about waste diversion to its residents. Also, it also offers a weekly video series on social media platform where the residents’ questions about recycling, composting and waste reduction are answered by Charlotte Lin, the town’s sustainability coordinator.

The above campaigns were a big shift from traditional government approach to recycling educational campaigns, being more interactive and innovative. It answers specific questions rather than providing answers on generic questions. The campaign has delivered significant improvement to recycling culture, as is evident from the improved waste diversion numbers by the town.

The educational resources as part of the recycling campaign aims to lay foundation for the town’s future sustainability efforts.

The award was received by Lin on behalf of the town at the annual summit of Recycle Colorado.
