According to Columbus Battalion Chief Jeffrey Geitter, the person was transported by Columbus Division of Fire medics to OhioHealth Grant Medical Center, where he died from injuries later. The person, who is yet to be identified, is a contractor working at the facility and not an employee of Rumpke, he said. The mishap with some equipment used as part of the project led to the incident, Geitter added.

The federal Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) authorities have launched an investigation into the incident. The company spokesperson said that it does not have any additional information to share with apart from the press release and that it is fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation.

Randy Broadright, area safety manager at Rumpke said that the company offers its thoughts and prayers to all those touched in any way by the incident. It is working closely with the authorities and project partners in the investigation, Broadright added.
