Monmouth County Announces Free Shredding Event in Eatontown on May 9

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): Eatontown will host a free county paper shredding event on May 9, offering Monmouth County residents a secure way to dispose of sensitive documents and prevent identity theft. The event will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Borough Hall parking lot.

Organized by the Monmouth County Board of County Commissioners, the initiative is part of a broader 2026 program featuring 16 shredding events across all 53 municipalities. Officials say the program helps residents safely discard personal records such as bank statements, medical files, legal papers, and utility bills.

Participants can bring up to 100 pounds of paper—roughly four office boxes or large trash bags—for on-site shredding using mobile trucks. While staples and paper clips are allowed, large binder clips must be removed beforehand. The event will conclude either at the scheduled time or once truck capacity is reached.

Following Eatontown, additional events are scheduled in Matawan on May 30, Shrewsbury Borough on June 13, and Union Beach on June 27. County officials encourage residents to take advantage of these free services to reduce clutter and enhance data security.
