Howell Township Council Approved Waste Transfer Station Settlement

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Howell Township Council approved a settlement agreement with Resource Recycling towards construction of a waste transfer station at 34 Randolph Road.

The agreement was approved in a 4-1 vote, with Mayor Theresa Berger dissenting. The project is pending approval by the state Department of Environmental Protection as well as the Monmouth County Solid Waste Advisory Commission.

The members of the public demanded that the voting should be delayed. However, the officials and Council members clarified that even an approval vote for the settlement is unlikely to have any influence on the final approval for the station. Township Manager Joseph Clark noted that the agreement mentions the mode of operation of the facility, if approved.

The company made a brief presentation about its plans, which was followed by a review of the settlement by the town. The residents who spoke after this, expressed concerns over anticipated truck traffic on The Randolph Road on account of the facility, although the operations are proposed to take place in an enclosed struture. Moreover, they asked for more time to study the agreement before being put into vote.
