SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): Fort McCoy’s Qualified Recycling Program (QRP), which deal s with recyclable materialsfrom military activities, has generated more than $1.1 million in revenue during fiscal year 2026.

The spent ammunition casings collected from training ranges emerged as the major contributor to the revenues. The QrP, in partnership with the Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation, recovered about 140 tons of brass shell casings. A total of five competitive sales brought in $1,098,958 of revenues.

The program also worked with the Directorate of Plans, Training, Mobilization and Security to review shipping containers previously used as range training aids. Nearly 40 tons of unserviceable containers were diverted for recycling, thus resulting in revenue generation of around $6,383. In addition as many as 1,161 fully serviceable containers were transferred to the Defense Logistics Agency for strategic reuse. This has helped in extending the lifecycle of critical infrastructure and saving a huge sum in replacement costs.

According to Fort McCoy officials, the FY26 performance highlights the financial value of treating discarded materials as recoverable assets. The results also demonstrate how cooperation among installation directorates can combine waste reduction with resource recovery.
