Essex County to Host Free Paper Shredding Event

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster):  Essex County, New Jersey is offering its residents a free opportunity to get rid of their unwanted paper. The free Paper Shredding Day is open to Essex County residents only.

The event will be held at the Essex County Public Works Department, 99 West Bradford Avenue in Cedar Grove from 8:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday, June 7, 2025. Although residents won’t be charged for the materials that they bring to the event, they must provide proof of residency at the site. Also, commercial establishments are not allowed to participate in the event.

There will be no cap on the amount of paper that residents can bring, according to the Public Works Department. Before being delivered to the location, they have to make sure that all metal binders and plastic sheets and covers are taken out. Paper clips and staples do not need to be taken out. Additionally, it said that films, picture negatives, and photographs would not be permitted at the event.

According to Essex County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo Jr., the Paper Shredding Day would allow the county's citizens to safely and securely discard old documents, protecting their personal information. Reusable materials will be removed from the waste stream. According to him, all of the paper that is torn up during the event will be recycled.
