City of Santa Barbara to Host Citywide Yard Sale

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): The City of Santa Barbara, in partnership with the Santa Barbara Department of Sustainability, will host a Community Yard Sale. Hundred homes will participate in the event, which is scheduled to take place this Saturday 8 AM to 2 PM. The event is aimed at curbing waste dumping and improving recycling.

The residents who received a sign with a QR code will be listed on a map. They will be also provided a resource guide that lists places to dispose their items or recycle throughout the year. The event is being used as an educational tool to responsibly donate or dispose leftover items. By participating in the event, residents will become part of the movement to reduce, reuse and recycle, the City observed.

The City urged residents to ensure residents to plan ahead and spread the word about the event. It called upon residents to organize items by category and offer deals and bundles. In order to make transactions convenient, the participants are urged to setting up a Venmo account or QR code for contactless payments.

Jen Hollywood, Outreach coordinator noted that the event will promote a circular economy by giving someone else to use a discarded item, rather than sending it to the landfill. The County landfill has been receiving more trash recently, Hollywood said.
