El Paso County to Create Task Force in Response to Recycling Plant Fires


SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): The El Paso County Commissioners announced their decision to set up a task force to address the recurring incidents of recycling plant fires. The task force will comprise of representatives from Commissioner’s office, county attorneys and community.

In a meeting organized by the governing body, several members belonging to the community had raised concerns over fire incidents. They called upon the commissioners for a permanent solution to the problem, as it leads to serious health risks. The proposal of creation of a task force was made by El Paso County Commissioner Carlos Leon in response to the issues raised by residents.

The residents pointed out that shutting down the business is the potential long-term solution to ensure that such incidents do not repeat. However, they welcomed the County’s decision, saying that it is a step in the right direction. The neighbours of the facility would meet to elect a representative for the task force.

It must be noted that Avail Surplus Metals plant had caught fire last week, leading to evacuation of people from the area. The massive fire occurred at around 2.30 PM sending plumes of smoke. The fire was attended to by crews from El Paso, Horizon, Montana Vista, and Ysleta del Sur.
