Delaware Recycling Delivered Significant Environment and Economic Benefits

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): The Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) announced relaunch of its ‘Recyclopedia’ in connection with America Recycles Day on November 15th. The online resource offers an important tool for residents to decide upon the best way to manage their waste.

The web-based tool offers comprehensive pictorial guide, covering more than 375 items. It provides information regarding nearest location where users can efficiently dispose of or recycle these items, thus helping to reduce the volume of recyclables and other waste ending up in landfills.

According to DNREC, recycling in Delaware saves 445,166 tons of waste from landfills. It reduces greenhouse gas emissions by 176,754 metric tons of carbon equivalent. Furthermore, it reduces energy use by 5.34 Btu. Also, recycling supports more than $67 million in wages, it noted.

Shawn M. Garvin, Secretary, DNREC noted that the proper use of ‘Recyclopedia’ will help Delaware citizens to adhere to its Universal Recycling Law. To a large extent, it will clear the uncertainties about where, what and how to recycle. It provides clear guidance on which all items are to be taken to a drop-off location, placed in a curbside recycling cart or thrown in the trash, he added.
