Alise Certa, CSWD spokesperson said that it is thankful to Chittenden County voters for their overwhelming support. The vote is a testimony of the commitment of Vermonters to recycling, she added.

The cost of the new recycling facility is estimated at around $26 million. In addition to the $22 bond, CSWD plans to cover the balance with funds from reserves and grants. The bond will be repaid through revenues from the facility. The permitting and design work of the recycling facility is expected to commence next year, with a scheduled opening in July 2025.

The facility will reduce Vermont’s carbon footprint, thereby delivering significant environment benefits. Moreover, it will have the ability to adapt to future changes in recyclable materials.
