Dane County to Host Shred Fest and Electronics Recycling Event

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): Dane County will host its annual Shred Fest and electronics recycling event this Friday. The event will offer residents with a secure way to dispose of thier sensitive documents and electronic devices.

The event, organized as part of Elder Abuse Awareness Month, will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Warner Park, located at 2930 N. Sherman Avenue in Madison. The event, led by Dane County Adult Protective Services, is being held in partnership with Pellitteri Data Destruction Division, the Agency on Aging, Dane County Department of Waste & Renewables, Dane County Highway & Transportation Department, and the City of Madison.

This year’s event has been expanded to include the recycling of small electronic devices in addition to paper shredding services.

Residents are encouraged to bring documents such as bank statements, tax returns, checkbooks, and receipts for secure destruction. Accepted electronic items include cell phones, laptops, tablets, and e-readers.

Volunteers will be available on-site to assist attendees and unload vehicles throughout the event.

According to County officials, financial exploitation continues to remain a significant threat. Last year alone, elderly residents in Dane County reportedly lost approximately $6.1 million to financial scams and extortion.
