Cranbrook Curbside Recycling Program Reached New Collection Milestone

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): The City of Cranbrook announced that its curbside recycling program has attained new collection milestone.

The program has collected approximately 975 tonnes of recyclable materials since its inception two years back. The nearly 6,300 curbside recycling bins placed across Cranbrook have helped in diverting approximately 17% of the community’s total solid waste from landfills.

Mayor Wayne Price commented the support to the curbside recycling program from residents over the past couple of years, without which the program would not have been a huge success. This has helped to keep impressive volumes of reusable materials out of landfills. He also thanked the staff, the Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) and RecycleBC for their support to the initiative.

The recycling carts accept paper products and packaging such as boxboard, cardboard, newspaper, mixed paper, magazines, in addition to metal and plastic containers. However, the curbside recycling does not accept glass, soft plastic, household glass containers, Styrofoam packaging, overwrap and electronic items. The residents are required to take these items to the RecycleBC Depot at Cranbrook’s transfer station.

The City of Cranbrook's automated curbside collection service is paid for by RecycleBC and the RDEK.
