Coralville City to Launch Single-Stream Recycling in June

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): The City of Coralville is all set to begin single-stream recycling program effective 3rd June, 2024. Consequently, city residents will no longer need to segregate their recyclables by material type. It must be noted that neighbouring Iowa City, North Liberty as well as cities in Linn County already offers single-stream recycling services to consumers.

The program was initially scheduled to be launched in March this year, but was postponed due to delay in purchasing new automated truck. The City was hoping to receive the truck in October last year.

The cost of implementation of the single-stream recycling program is estimated at around $600,000, which will be funded from the city’s waste utility budget, grant and loan from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and grant from The Recycling Partnership.

According to Kelly Hayworth, City Administrator, there will be no change in pickup schedule. Also, the fees will continue to remain the same. The distribution of the new 65-gallon recycling carts to residents will start in the week of May 15. The residents can continue using their existing bins until end-May, after which they will be picked up by the city for recycling.
