Columbus residents can dispose of household chemicals, paints, automotive fluids and selected electronics during a dedicated collection at the city's Recycling and Sustainability Center.

MONTREAL (RecyclingMonster): Columbus Public Works will give residents an opportunity to dispose of household hazardous waste and selected electronics during a collection event scheduled for Saturday, October 10.

The event will run from 8 a.m. to noon at the Columbus Recycling and Sustainability Center, 8001 Pine Grove Way. Participation is limited to Columbus, Georgia, residents, who must present identification at the site.

Household Chemicals and Lawn Products Accepted

A wide range of household chemicals will be accepted, including bleach, ammonia, household cleaners, furniture polish, oven cleaner and insect-control products.

Residents may also bring lawn and garden chemicals such as fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, fungicides and pool-treatment products.

Paint, Electronics and Automotive Products Included

The collection will accept several types of paint and solvents, including latex and oil-based paints, furniture stripper and paint thinner.

Selected electronic equipment, including computers, printers, fax machines, copiers and other consumer electronics, may also be dropped off. Televisions will not be accepted.

Other accepted materials include used motor oil, oil filters, gasoline, antifreeze, lubricants, brake and transmission fluids, car wax, metal polish, car batteries and light bulbs.

Officials said the event is intended to provide Columbus residents with a designated disposal option for potentially hazardous materials that should not be placed with regular household garbage.
