Oregon's Bye Bye Mattress Program Expands Recycling Access

The Mattress Recycling Council is a nonprofit organization created by the bedding industry to operate statewide mattress recycling programs in jurisdictions that have enacted mattress recycling laws.

Its Bye Bye Mattress program currently operates in Oregon, California, Connecticut and Rhode Island. The organization reports recycling nearly 2 million mattresses annually.

Oregon's program began operating in January 2025. It is financed through a state-approved stewardship assessment collected when new mattresses and box springs are sold. The current Oregon assessment is $22.50 per unit.

The funding supports mattress collection locations, recycling events, transportation and processing services across the state.
