City of Whitehorse to Co-Host 3-Day Recycling Summit


SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): The City of Whitehorse has joined hands with Yukon government to host a three-day recycling summit from November 1 to 3. The event will bring together governments, organizations and individuals. It will hold discussions on waste diversion, thus providing residents an opportunity to learn more about the circular economy in Yukon.

As part of the summit, an Open House will be held on November 1 from 4 pm to 7 pm at the Kwanlin Dun Cultural Centre. It will feature different booths and various other events such as workshops. Also, the open house will provide an opportunity for Yukoners to submit in-person feedback on Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) scheme.

Whitehorse Mayor Laura Cabott said that the open house intends to provide residents with an opportunity to learn in detail about EPR formalities and waste diversion techniques. Furthermore, it will offer a clear roadmap of the series of steps which the city plans to ensure better waste management.

Nils Clarke, Environment Minister encouraged Yukoners to recyle, reuse and reduce their waste. The open house will feature various recycling tools to divert their personal waste. In addition, residents are invited to submit their feedback and suggestions on the upcoming EPR policy.
