City of Plymouth offers holiday light recycling through Jan. 31

To help reduce household waste, the Plymouth offers free holiday light recycling through Jan. 31 at the city’s Recycling Drop-Off Site, 14900 23rd Ave. N.

Collection bins are available all hours at the site. Lights must be placed in the separately marked collection boxes, not in the regular recycling containers.

Residents may drop off string lights and extension cords to be recycled at no cost. String lights may contain any type of bulb, including LED, and lights need not be functioning.

Residents are asked to only drop off string lights and extension cords – not other holiday décor. Materials not accepted include pre-lit Christmas trees, light-up lawn fixtures (candy canes, reindeer, etc.) and fiber-optic lights.

Don’t throw holiday lights in curbside bins

Holiday lights, wires, plastic bags and other items with strings or strands are not accepted in curbside recycling bins, as they tangle and cause damage to recycling processing equipment.

Other disposal options for string and holiday lights include putting them in the garbage or dropping them off for free year-round recycling at a Hennepin County drop-off facility. For more information, visit hennepin.us/dropoff.
