City of Kingsport to Exit Curbside Recycling

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): The City of Kingsport announced that it is officially exiting curbside recycling. According to city officials, it will begin collecting blue recycling cans starting July 1. With effect from this date, voluntary customers such as business and non-city users will have new fee structures. It must be noted that Kingsport had first paused its curbside recycling program in 2020 on account of increased cost of recyclables and lack of markets.

The outside-the-city voluntary customers and professional complexes who rent a cart will see an increase of $5 in fees. The tipping and rental fees will go up by $10 per month for roll off containers, while pull fees will see an increase of $35. There will be an increase in demolition landfill fees and charges, by a minimum $2 on minimum tipping fee of less than 1,000 pounds and $5 per ton increase on tipping fees thereafter. The amount of free trips to the landfill will see an increase from 2 per year to 12.

The City noted that majority of the households will be able to manage with a single cart. Those who require additional carts would be able to purchase them at additional cost.

The board will approve a new sanitation collection and management system at the convenience centers.
