City Of Eugene Started New Recycling Campaign

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): The City of Eugene announced start of a new recycling campaign titled “Drop the Baggage”.

The Drop the Baggage webpage provides brief information about recycling such as what items are recyclable and what are not. The link to a tool allows residents to search for an item to find out whether it can be recycled, reused or trashed. The new campaign will conduct outreach programmes, including public events and handing out of flyers providing detailed recycling information.

According to the City news release, the campaign will also focus on raising awareness on the Recycling Modernization Act passed by Oregon’s legislature last year, which proposes recycling changes which are due to take effect in July 2025. Accordingly, access to recycling services will be expanded, recycling sorting facilities will be upgraded and plastic pollution will be reduced.

The Act will introduce a statewide collection list for Oregon, which in turn will put an end to yearly changes in the list of recyclables. In addition, it promises consistent recycling bills for state residents.

Deveron Musgrave, city of Eugene’s waste prevention and green building program manager noted that the campaign aims to eliminate the fair amount of confusion that currently exists with regards to what can and what cannot be recycled.
