City of Clearwater Recycled 8,000 Tons of Materials in 2023


SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The City of Clearwater reported that its recycling program was a huge success in 2023. The Clearwater Solid Waste and Recycling collected and processed approximately 8,000 tons of recyclable materials. The City had announced a massive overhauling of its recycling program in early-2023.

The City had appointed Kervin St. Aimie was appointed as Solid Waste and Recycling assistant director in January 2023, who was then promoted to director in July 2023. In April, a dashboard displaying the tonnage of recycling collected and processed each month was launched.

The City Council had approved a long-term, single-stream recycling contract with St. Petersburg, Fla-based Waste Connections, which went into effect on 1st October, 2023. The contract has resulted in significant savings in per ton recycling rate. Towards the end of the previous year, Clearwater received some white refuse trucks that are now picking up solid waste or recycling in city neighborhoods.

The Solid Waste Department has joined hands with a vendor to optimize its service routes, as part of its efforts to improve efficiency. It urged residents to avoid recycling contamination and to ensure that only right items enters the recycling stream.
