SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): The residents of Central Illinois are seen gearing up to celebrate Earth Day on 22nd April, 2023.
Elisabeth Reed, director of Illinois State University’s Office of Sustainability noted that the Earth Day is a day to pause and remember all the things that we consume and how responsibly are they discarded.

ISU’s Office of Sustainability plans to undertake a number of initiatives aimed at promoting recycling, reusing, repairing and reducing of waste. The “Share Shop” store of the office and the Fix-It Fridays program aim at keeping textiles out of landfills. As part of the Earth Week celebrations, the Fix-It Fridays team will be at the Illinois Art Station, 101 E. Vernon Ave., Normal, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 22. The Earth Week activities comprise of tree planting and cleanup events as well.
In addition, the Ecology Action Center will conduct a cleanup of Constitution Trail and Sugar Creek from 9 a.m. to noon April 22 and tree planting at the ParkLands Foundation Lexington Preserve April 22 and 23. This is in addition to composting and rain barrel workshops scheduled for April 22.
An Earth Day Festival will be organized from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 22 at Forest Park Nature Center, 5809 N. Forest Park Drive, Peoria Heights. Also, a Festival of Spring will be held from noon to 4 p.m. April 22 at the Macon County Conservation District’s Rock Springs Nature Center, 3939 Nearing Lane, Decatur.
