SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): Leading solid waste service provider Casella Waste Systems announced plans to acquire Mountain State Waste- a company that offers residential, commercial and industrial waste collection services in West Virginia and parts of Ohio, Pennsylvania and Kentucky. The transaction is expected to close in Q4 this year, subject to necessary regulatory approvals.
According to the company, the proposed transaction is expected to generate approximately $30 million in annual revenues. In addition to expanding its existing footprints in Pennsylvania, the deal is expected to help the company expand into new territories including West Virginia.

Mountain State Waste has been expanding its presence in the West Virginia region over the past several years. In 2022, it acquired Republic Services’ trash collection routes in Lincoln, Mason, Boone and Logan counties. Also, it acquired Greensboro-based Greene Waste Services and Ohio-based B&M Sanitation in April and December of last year respectively.
Currently, Mountain State Waste runs four hauling operations and a transfer station in Mt. Morris, Pennsylvania. It has a fleet of around 60 vehicles.
CEO John Casella noted that the company looks to build on Mountain State Waste’s extensive network of operations and strong reputation for reliable services.
