Campbell County Boosts Recycling Program with New Compactors

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): Campbell County has announced introduction of new recycling compactors at four public waste collection centers. The upgrade allows residents to dispose of different recyclable materials into one container, Consequently, residents are not required to separate paper, plastic, metal, and cardboard before disposal.

The initiative was made possible through grant funding from a nonprofit organization and a partnership with Elite Recycling.

Upon collection, the mixed recyclables are transported to the company's processing facility, where advanced equipment sorts the materials for recycling. According to County officials, the simplified collection system has helped to lower waste management costs and improve waste management efforts.

The easier process has encouraged more residents to recycle while increasing the amount of material each site can handle. Workers at the collection centers reported that the use of compactors save space by compressing recyclable items. The county plans to install similar equipment at additional collection sites in the coming years.

The recycling expansion comes while Campbell County continues discussions over the future of the Region 2000 landfill in Rustburg, which is expected to reach capacity by 2029. It must be noted that County leaders remain divided on the landfill's future, with some supporting expansion, while others . Some support expansion as a lower-cost option, while others consider stronger recycling efforts and waste reduction programs as a long-term solution.
