SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): Over 6.8 million kg of spent batteries were recycled by Canadians last year through Call2Recycle, the country's top battery collecting and recycling service. This represents a noteworthy 17% rise in comparison to 2023.
Recycling volumes increased year over year in the majority of provinces, according to Call2Recycle. Significant double-digit growth was also noted in Quebec and Ontario. The battery collecting and recycling program has broken records for the second year in a row. It stated that 50 million kg of batteries had been recycled by Canadians since 1997, marking a significant milestone.

The Recycle Your Batteries, Canada! Program gained additional traction with the choice of Canadian soccer icon Christine Sinclair as its national ambassador. The deployment of North America's first "smart" battery containers throughout its network, a series of awareness initiatives, and the start of a new government battery recycling program in Nova Scotia all helped to compile the records for 2024.
According to Call2Recycle Canada President Joe Zenobio, the record-breaking year demonstrates Canadians' continued dedication to trash reduction and environmental protection.
