Burlington Enacts New Recycling Policy With Effect From July

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): City of Burlington, Vermont has implemented changes to its recycling policy with effect from 1st July, 2023. The new recycling changes are expected to ensure safety to city employees in addition to making the city streets cleaner and free from trash.

The proposed changes to the recycling law require every residence to own and use a covered recycling toter to receive recycling pickup, in place of the existing blue bins. The recycling toters are being offered at heavily subsidized rate and delivered to customers. The toters are available in three sizes- 35 gallon, 65 gallon and 95 gallon, which are available for $10, $20 and $25 respectively.

The toters will keep the recycling dry, making it easier for crews to pick them up. It will prevent materials such as paper and cardboard, which gets ruined if wet. In addition, it will also ensure safety of employees.

Effective 1st July, 2023, the city will no longer pick up recycling left outside of the pre-approved covered bin. Furthermore, the recycling left outside of the covered carts may be subject to a fine.

The recycling must be out by 7AM on the day of pickup. The recycling will not be picked up on Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving or Christmas.
