SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): The Fremont Recycling and Transfer Station at BLT Enterprises has undergone upgrades totaling $10 million. The cities of Fremont, Newark, and Union City are served by the 187,000-square-foot facility.
City National Bank provided $10 million in funding from the California Pollution Control Financing Authority (CPCFA) to enable the renovations.
The material recycling facility has been upgraded on the inside as well as the outside. The facility's current solar power system will be improved as part of the project. Additionally, cutting-edge robots and sophisticated sorting equipment using AI-enabled optical sorters will be installed, greatly increasing the facility's efficiency.

Five optical sorting equipment and two more robots are part of the investment. Paper, plastic, and metal recyclables will be identified and sorted by the new optical sorters using sensors and artificial intelligence.
Karena Shackelford, the city manager of Fremont, stated that the improvements made at the Fremont Recycling and Transfer Station represent a significant step forward in the city's dedication to sustainability and innovation. The improvements will greatly increase recycling recovery, which will help the city meet its climate action goals.
