Berrien County to Hold Recycling Day Next Weekend


SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): Berrien County announced that it will hold a recycling day next weekend. The event is part of the series of community recycling events being offered to its residents. This will provide the County residents with an opportunity to get rid of unwanted materials.

The event will be held on Saturday, September 16th from 9AM to 1 PM at the Silver Beach County Park, 101 Broad Street, St. Joseph. It will accept a wide range of materials including yard and garden chemicals, used oil, old gasoline, unused medication, medical needles, electronics, spent batteries, spray cans, oil-based paint, and hard foam. There will be a fee for certain items such as TVs, monitors, and Freon-containing appliances.

Berrien County Assistant Environmental Property Manager Genevieve Graves noted that the events are held with the aim of keeping such materials out of landfills. Most of these items can be reused. Moreover, improper disposal may cause potential damages to environment and human health, he added.

A similar event will be held on Saturday, October 7 from 8AM to 12 Noon at Southeast Berrien County Landfill Recycle Center, 3200 Chamberlain Rd., Buchanan, which will also offer on-site paper shredding.
