The announcement was made by Calvin Ball, Howard County Executive. The event will be held for a period of eight continuous days from 9th to 16th September, 2023 8AM-4PM.

The free drop-off event is open to all Howard County residents. The entry will be restricted to only those who produce proof of residency.

According to Ball, the extremely large volume of tires produced and their durability makes it a challenging source of waste. In most cases, these tires end up in landfills. The event offers a unique opportunity for the County residents to be environment-friendly by ensuring that old tires are recycled securely, to be used in a wide range of products, he added.

The normal limit of five tires per person has been waived off for the event. Instead, each resident could bring a maximum of 10 used tires free of rims. The event will accept only car, light truck or van tires. No commercial generated loads of tires or oversized tires will be accepted during the event.

The event is being held under the sponsorship of the Maryland Department of the Environment and Maryland Environmental Service.
