SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): Atlanta-based Graphic Packaging International announced plans to construct a high-tech paperboard recycling plant in Waco. The $1 billion mill marks the biggest investment in the region, said local officials. Furthermore, it will turn out to become one of the top tax revenue generators in the entire McLennan County.
The company plans to break ground on the 640,000-square-foot facility in Texas Central Park this spring. The proposed facility will turn corrugated cardboard for consumer packaging. The plant is expected to commence production in early-2025. The plant will generate approximately 230 jobs with average pay of $65,000 plus extra benefits.
Reportedly, the company is in the final stages of signing an economic development deal with the city of Waco, McLennan County, Waco Industrial Foundation and the Greater Waco Chamber of Commerce.
The Graphic Packaging leadership assured that the plant would not cause odor problems or other environmental issues.
Michael Doss, president and CEO of Graphic Packaging noted that the new recycled paperboard mill in Waco will enhance the company’s ability to meet growing global demand for packaging made with recycled materials. In addition, he appreciated the strong support and engagement it received from the City of Waco and McLennan County.
