Village of Quincy officials issue statement on non-recyclable items in recycling containers

QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – Officials in the Village of Quincy say they have been noticing lately there has been a lot of “wishcycling”, in other words non-recyclable items are being placed in the recycling containers.

A post on the village’s Facebook page this week listed items that are NOT recyclable such as:

-pizza boxes
-caps on laundry detergent bottles
-labels on glass or cans
-magazines
-kitchen ware or auto parts
-non-recyclable glass (windows, mirrors, light bulbs)
-chemicals/oil drums

It was noted that recycling becomes contaminated when these non-recyclable items are placed in the recycling container.

Modern Waste Systems took over as the village’s refuse collector on January 1, 2023 from Republic Services.

In order to help keep costs to residents down, curbside recycling and weekly large item pickups were discontinued.

A recycling dumpster was located at the Village Office on Cole Street for residents to bring recyclables in between Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. until 6:00 p.m..
