SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): Call2Recycle Inc. announced battery collection statistics in the U.S. during the previous year. Nearly 8 million pounds of used batteries were collected for recycling in 2022. This comprises of 3 million pounds of lithium-ion batteries, which is a record collection in Call2Recycle’s history.
As per data, overall battery collection recorded marginal decline by 2% when compared with 2021. However, the 13% surge in lithium-ion battery collections resulted in an overall 4% increase in total rechargeable battery collections. The U.S. collected 2.3 million lbs of primary batteries and 5.6 million lbs of rechargeable batteries in 2022.
Call2Recycle announced that Vermont’s battery collection, at around 149,000 pounds, was slightly higher from 2021.
Also, the industry-supported e-bike battery recycling program powered by the non-profit recorded a collection of over 26,000 lbs of e-bike batteries during the first year of the program.
Leo Raudys, CEO, Call2Recycle thanked consumers, industry stewards, and its collection partners for their support to the efforts to safely and responsibly recycle batteries. Call2Recycle is committed to making battery recycling more accessible to consumers, Raudys added.
