Tennessee Riverkeeper Removed Huge Volumes of Litter from Pinhook Creek

SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): Tennessee Riverkeeper announced that its staff and volunteers have successfully removed huge volumes of litter from Pinhook Creek in downtown Huntsville. The event, held this Sunday, removed approximately 1,900 pounds of litter.

According to press release, nearly 20 people attended the event. They removed nearly 62 bags of trash. The collected items included two shopping carts, a sink, tires, pallets, auto parts, toys, and a skateboard. Out of these, only around 12 pounds were recyclable, event officials noted. The trash was dominated by plastic materials, including styrofoam, plastic shopping bags, bottles, and straws.

David Whiteside, Executive Director, Tennessee Riverkeeper noted that plastic pollution is not only a local issue, but a global one. There is no easy solution to prevent plastic pollution, but preventing plastics from entering waterways is a potential solution, he said.

The event held on Sunday was the second annual cleanup event held by TN Waterkeeper. The similar event held in 2022 at the same region had collected more than 1,700 pounds of refuse.

Tennessee Riverkeeper is committed to protect and preserve the Tennessee and Cumberland River Basins.
