SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): The Tennessee Recycling Coalition (TRC) announced that it has received a grant of $20,000 from the Beverage Association of Tennessee and the American Beverage Foundation for a Healthy America. The grant money will be used to support efforts aimed at developing a new application to improve recycling education and enhance recycling accessibility across the state.
A recent event held at Soddy Daisy High School in Hamilton County launched a contest for high school students to develop the app. The students will have four months to develop the app. They are supposed to develop an interactive app with features including contamination prevention tips, educational toolkit and recycling center locator. The winner of the contest will be announced in August.
The app will play a major role in the proposed “Recycle Right TN” campaign, which will be promoted across the state through social media, billboards and other media channels. The winning student developers will be featured at TRC’s annual conference to be held in August. Furthermore, it will be made available for download via TRC’s website.
Darren Hodges, Chairman, Beverage Association of TN noted that the grant is a unique example of the beverage industry’s continued commitment to supporting sustainability efforts in the state.
