SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): Elizabeth Roe was named the new president of the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA). It also revealed a new board of directors, whose tenure would start on July 1, 2025.
Tammy Hayes, who will take over as SWANA's Past President and lead the board, will be replaced by Roe. Since the early 2000s, Roe has been a part of SWANA. She has been engaged in her local SWANA chapters and held a number of leadership positions in SWANA Technical Divisions.
Roe and the new board of directors were greeted by SWANA CEO Amy Lestition Burke. She pointed out that these people are representative of a wide range of the waste and resource management sector. She also expressed her hope that they will combine their distinct viewpoints to help SWANA's members and determine its future.
The last year's efforts and assistance from last President Art Mercer, Director Gary L. Conover, Director James D. Moore, and Director Timothy Stephens were also valued by Lestition Burke.
The recently constituted SWANA Board of Directors brings a lot of experience from a variety of industry sectors, such as public policy, education, environmental engineering, and public outreach.
