Sullivan County Named New Recycling Director


SEATTLE (Recycling Monster): Sullivan County has appointed new co-ordinator for its recycling program. Kassie Thelman, a County native has been named the new recycling director, said the County news release. A resident of Monticello, she has been working in inspection and operations job in Orange County for the past seven years.

Thelman is a graduate of Sullivan West Central School District. She earned an associate’s in Environmental Science at SUNY Sullivan and a bachelor’s in Environmental Planning at Binghamton University.

Edward McAndrew, Public Works Commissioner welcomed Thelman to its hardworking team and said that he looks forward to the innovations to be introduced by her, such as reduction in number of truck trips to the upstate Seneca Meadows landfill, which in turn will save money and cut emissions to a large extent. Her deep commitment to best practices in fields of solid waste and recycling will deliver significant benefits to the County, McAndrew added.

The new recycling director will be involved in discussions with Public Works on ways to improve upon the methods in which the County currently handles recyclable and non-recyclable waste.
